Dinking with the Pro: An Inside Look at Pickleball Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1 p.m. Pelican Bay’s Racquets Facility Manager Michelle Esquivel joined us for an engaging Speaker Series presentation. From collegiate tennis star to pickleball pro, her journey was a testament to her passion and dedication. Attendees learned about her impressive career, from earning a full athletic scholarship at Concordia University to competing internationally and medaling in numerous professional pickleball tournaments, including the English Open and New Zealand Cup. They also discovered how her experience as a USPTA Tennis Pro, IPTPA-certified pickleball instructor, and manager of prominent pickleball facilities shaped her approach to the game. Esquivel also shared her insights into the exciting world of pickleball and discussed the future of the sport at Pelican Bay. Known for her clear and strategic commentary on the professional pickleball circuit, she was eager to connect with the Southwest Florida community and bring her expertise to the Pelican Bay Foundation as the Head of Racquets Pro. LOL with the People You Love: A Comedian’s Perspective Thursday, Nov. 6, 5 p.m. We were thrilled to present an exclusive lecture from a famous comedian, Pelican Bay’s own Samson Crouppen. While many know him from his Amazon Prime special “Proof I Was Here” or for his work touring with comedy giants like Tiffany Haddish and Michelle Wolfe, Crouppen is also a highly accomplished TV executive producer, writer, and actor. As a producer for the hit truTV show “Laff Mobb’s Laff Tracks” and his own series “Samson’s World,” he brought a wealth of experience from the highest levels of the entertainment industry right to our community. At this special event, Crouppen discussed a topic relevant to everyone, “Connecting in the Digital Age.” Drawing from his expertise as a media professional and his personal experience as a proud husband and father of three, he provided unique and humorous insights on how to effectively use social media to strengthen bonds with your kids, grandkids, and even enhance your business. Those who attended enjoyed learning from a master of communication how to navigate the modern world with humor and grace. The Evolution of Sports Media: A Behind-the-Scenes Look Wednesday, Nov. 19, 3:30 p.m. Marc Appleman, a seasoned veteran of the sports and media industry, engaged the audience with captivating stories and insights from his diverse career, while offering a unique behind-thescenes perspective on the evolution of sports coverage. From the rise of digital media to the changing landscape of professional and collegiate athletics, both men’s and women’s, Appleman explored key trends and moments that shaped the way we experience sports today. His presentation provided a fascinating glimpse into the world where sports and media intersect, giving valuable insights to both avid fans and industry enthusiasts. Appleman brought a wealth of experience to the stage, having held leadership positions at some of the most prominent organizations in sports and media. As former CEO of SABR (Society for American Baseball Research), he fostered a thriving community and collaborated closely with Major League Baseball.
