infrastructure, consistent with regulations and newest technology. As work on the restaurants get going, management and contractors have prioritized the opening of beach access at South Beach. Some limited food & beverage offerings will also be available. Hopefully, as you read this, these will already be in use. So, for all of 2023, Pelican Bay will have 100% use of all tennis courts, the Fitness &Wellness Center and the Community Center. The berm and limited tram service will also be available to take members from end to end and to the South Beach. Walking paths and biking routes are back as is Artis–Naples, the Waterside Shops and the Marketplace. Some 2022 priorities have been postponed in order to focus on the restoration of the beach and its restaurants. An enlargement of the Community Center was tabled in June as members were concerned about the cost and the need to temporarily remove access to the north tennis courts during one season. The ability to focus both dollars and attention on the renovation of the community’s waterbased assets, now that this project is on hold, is propitious. Likewise, our efforts to bring pickleball to Pelican Bay are on hold. There is no location within our campus that is either available to us or did not create strong neighborhood opposition. We had been working with the County to bring pickleball to the Pelican Bay Community Park but a new board of county commissioners and a new county manager have put that project on hold. And Hurricane Ian has changed the County’s immediate priorities. We continue to work with our colleagues in the Pelican Bay Services Division on landscape and safety issues, lake bank restoration and the replacement of sidewalks along Pelican Bay Boulevard. The latter will be a time-consuming project, but it will add much to the appearance of our community and the safety of walkers and runners (and dogs). We urge you to enjoy what’s available in Pelican Bay in 2023. We wish our restaurants were available, but all other outdoor and indoor activities are ready to be enjoyed — and Naples weather is second to none!
