What steps are involved before
heading out to sail?
• You must be a resident, tenant
or guest, at least 18 years of
age, and have prior sailing
experience.
• Complete an initial application,
sign a waiver, and pay a one-
time fee by visiting South Beach.
• Set up an appointment at South
Beach with the on-staff Sailing
Coordinator for your hands-on
rigging and sailing test.
What kinds of sailboats do we
offer and how many do we have?
We offer four models of sailboats
with a total of six in our fleet:
• Sunfish
• Laser
• Pixel
• Hobie-Wave boats
What else should I know before
thinking about sailing?
• Sailing time is limited to one hour.
However, that may be extended if
others are not waiting. Check with
Beach Attendants after each
hour of use.
• Our Beach Manager is here to
make sure all runs smoothly.
• No one may take a sailboat out
unless they’re on the list of
“authorized sailors.”
• Friends and family may sail with
the authorized operator of a sail-
boat; however, they must be able
to swim, wear a life jacket, and be
at least 6 years old.
• Sailing is not allowed in winds more
than 15 mph and in rough seas
(surf more than three feet).
Need More Information?
• Call Mark Gruen, Beach Manager,
at 272-7159 or come to South Beach
to get on the “wave” to sailing.
